Am I too old to correct my smile with braces or clear, removable aligners like Invisalign?
Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age, as teeth can continue to be straightened during adulthood. In fact, with more aesthetically pleasing options like Invisalign, clear ceramic and lingual braces available these days, more and more adults are deciding to correct their smiles. After all, properly aligned teeth bring with them numerous benefits, including a cleaner mouth, healthier gums and lower chances of abnormal tooth wear. Having a better smile can also improve confidence and have a positive impact on one’s mental health.
While traditional braces are completely effective, clear aligners like Invisalign are especially popular among adult patients because they’re discreet and visibly undetectable in the mouth. In fact, many of our Invisalign patients are more willing to be socially active, since their friends, colleagues, clients and supervisors don’t know they are having orthodontic treatment. And, because the aligners can be removed before meals, people can straighten their teeth while still enjoying the foods they love.
Another advantage of Invisalign is that the process is fully computerised and planned accurately from start to finish. In addition to predictability, this means each movement is programmed by the computer to be gentle, unlike with manual wire-twisting via braces. So, there are no brackets or wires, and no painful rubbing!
Of course, it’s always best to consult a dentist in order to evaluate your individual dental condition.
