Find history at Fort Canning

The tree-covered hill of Fort Canning Park has been a historical landmark of Singapore for centuries. Most famously, it’s where the British Army made the decision to surrender to the Japanese in 1942, in an underground bunker known commonly as the Battle Box. The park is a pleasant, leafy place for a relaxed walk – don’t miss the nine historical gardens including the Spice Garden and Raffles Garden; or take things up a notch and climb the many sets of stairs, passing Singapore’s first Christian cemetery and relics of the island’s military past on the way to the reservoir on the summit.
