The arty humanitarian: KARI TAMURA CHUA

Last May, more than 500 visitors caught an art exhibition/awareness event that Chua, a project manager at a business intelligence firm, co-curated on a personal basis. Dubbed “Samasama”, it was held at a Mandai dormitory and redefined the perception of migrant workers as a creative, inspirational bunch that included entrepreneurs, teachers and a published poet. Come December, the 27-year-old is planning “Samasama 2.0” with the aim of creating another platform to further the cause for migrant workers. Though details are still under wraps, Chua says it will integrate data with public art.
