THE NEW CAPSULE DRESSING: ’70s “STREET STYLE”
The era’s practical staples amped up for a new kind of timeless.
Some silver-screen remakes from the era are great (cue A Star Is Born); others not so (see – or should it be not see – Carrie). The same can often be said of its fashion, with the results either being charming and a new kind of timeless, or literal and straight up tacky. The decade’s latest runway revival fits into the former by keeping things real: less about the disco minis and go-go boots, and more about practical, everyday staples amped up with the personality-packed patterns and frills of the time. Think bellbottoms (plain, printed or textured), platform sandals (to complement said flares), a patterned shirt, and a svelte, not-too-loud logo belt. It’s hard not to like the ready-made combo, especially when there are more – and even more fun options – in S/S ’19 up next.
