The fourth addition to the Chance fragrance family is like the cool girl’s guide to capturing male attention today.

Breaking down this fourth addition to the maison’s sprightly Chance fragrance line reads like the cool girl’s guide to capturing male attention the 2019 (read: empowering) way. More radiant and feminine than the other three perfumes in the range (including the Eau Tendre EDT), it opens with an enveloping whiff of tangy grapefruit-quince accord that draws one in instantly. Quickly though, it reveals an inner melange of sweet yet sophisticated notes: a heart of delicate rose and creamy jasmine, and a base of white musk to mimic the feel-good smell of cotton. The overall effect is fresh yet familiar, punchy yet pleasant, light yet hard to forget. Take lessons.

It’s incongruous that as we hurtle continuously towards greater technology, a growing group of people – many weaned on smartphones at that – are consciously choosing to take a step back. And it’s now gone beyond enjoying a good hard-copy book, listening to music on vinyl, or going back to film photography (which up-and-coming New York-based lensman Cody Lidtke did for our cover story on Spring/Summer 2019’s most tactile and arty-patterned looks). Take the resurgence of zine culture here among a crowd that now goes beyond the creative scene, fuelled by its democratic nature not unlike that of social media. There’s the thriving community of contemporary artists whose impeccable drawings and sculptures in fact hinge on the imperfections of working by hand. And while mass streetwear reigns supreme, fashion has far from forgotten the significance of artisans and the little, onlypossible-by-hand details they make happen, all of which we celebrate in the pages ahead.
