The elements of beauty are not always attractive in their initial state. For instance, the ginseng root’s wizened appearance or the unformed rawness of a cloth scrap will not inspire much admiration. Yet, when harnessed by the right hands, they can eventually become the building blocks for greater and glorious ends.

For what makes beauty true, is the heart beneath the surface—and from its meticulous­ly concocted East-meets-West beauty potions to internatio­nal outreach programmes, it is evident that Sulwhasoo understand­s that a pure heart and a beautiful mien can mean one and the same thing.

That is why this month, Sulwhasoo will launch its annual Charity Quilt project for the fourth time, and adopt the humble yet stunning quilt as an emblem of beauty and love. Harnessing celebritie­s from the region to help spread the message of the quilt, the 2013 theme focuses on “Touching Hearts with Splendour.”

What’s more, a limited edition Korean patchwork-style pouch, filled with Sulwhasoo bestseller­s in travel sizes, will be sold to raise funds for World Vision Singapore, a developmen­t and advocacy organisati­on dedicated to working with children, families and communitie­s to tackle causes of poverty and injustice.

A dance of colour and patterns on fabric, quilts have long been created in East Asian cultures. Used as meaningful gifts for weddings or a child’s birth, they are the messengers of warmth and well-being.
