EDITOR’S LETTER
It’s slightly early for us to be showing spring/summer 2014 on our cover, but Kenneth Goh took one look at Hedi Slimane’s metallic, modern mini as the exit walked down the Saint Laurent runway in Paris in October and whisked it directly for the cover shoot of our “Gold” issue, even before the one-of-a-kind sample could hit the showroom floor or ad campaigns looks were pondered. This holiday season is all about sophisticated glamour and the dress hints at a bit of rebellion mixed with positive energy and fun, which is exactly the freespirited message we’d like to convey for the year’s end. This month is the first time in Harper’s BAZAAR Singapore’s 12-year history that we’ve shot an entire haute couture collections shoot. We’ve done couture stories with single designers before but never one so extensive as its extremely rare to have access to so many collections. And I’m thrilled that we are one of the few magazines in the world to be granted the opportunity. Turn to page 188 where the bespoke creations, many of which take months of meticulous handwork to create, come to life.
Each year we pick Singapore’s most stylish women. What designers are they wearing and where do they get their style? Inspired by the glamour of Italian cinema, we take to the stage and find out. A highlight of this issue is our not-so-ordinary gift guide. We take things one step further to find the most incredible buys for everyone from that yogi in your life who has reached a higher zen or your friend who thinks owning an Hermès saddle is commonplace. When it comes to beauty we’ve gathered tips from lots of friends of BAZAAR to find out who to go to and how to get an appointment for your beauty fix, and in turn we’ve uncovered some wonderful below-theradar jaunts.
Finally, as I was writing this letter, a friend of mine told me about a wonderful charitable initiative in Singapore, #GivingTuesdaySg, which has declared December 3rd Singapore’s “national day of giving,” encouraging charitable activities that support non-profit organisations. In true holiday spirit, make this year a season in which you’ll give back.
