EDITOR’S LETTER

-

The start of a new year, if you’re like me, usually means a laundry list of resolutions. I started my vows of resolution early this year after the W Singapore - Sentosa Cove’s AWAY Spa invited me to trial their guest celebrity facialist, Su Man Hsu’s famous treatment. Described by fans as “better than Botox,” I jumped at the invitation. Su-Man, who grew up in a poor family in Taiwan learned to cherish the earth and began incorporating ancient remedies to beautify the skin. Her technique is a hybrid of East meets West and involves special massage techniques and individual indiv assessments of the skin’s condition to achieve effective results. As I go through the initial consultation, “so undernourished,” she gasps, generally looking lo alarmed, and leaves me with advice for the new year — “Clean twice a day, moisturise twice a day, exfoliate twice a week, use toner daily—to put the hydration back, use serum immediately after toner to penetrate skin more deeply. Use eye cream daily and apply moisturiser last to lock in hydration.”

In our January issue, we offer some invaluable advice on rejuvenating your skin—which, following my consultation with Su Man, I have faithfully added to my list of things to correct for 2014—and bring you tips to achieving a flawless complexion. Also in the issue, Harper’s BAZAAR Singapore Sing is once again on the search for Asia’s Next Top Model. Meet some of the girls we’re considering to be the new face of Asia on page 58 and follow the series once it begins airing in January. Our cover model this month is Naomi Campbell. Naomi whizzed through Singapore for two days just to walk in Digital Fashion week and to sit for our cover. Read Kenneth Goh’s hysterical tale of waiting—all day—for her to arrive, in his monthly “A Musing” column. Naomi may have made us wait, but the shoot outcome proves why she is one third of the original supermodel trinity.

I’m pleased to be a part of bringing Harper’s BAZAAR Art, which you’ll find bundled with this issue, to life in Singapore. Fashion and art have always been linked and this spring/summer’s art-inspired catwalks indicate just how powerful art’s influence on fashion is.
