“PERCEPTIONS”
ROBERT LATOS AT SABIANA PAOLI ART GALLERY
A purveyor of the contemporary art scene in Singapore, Sabiana Paoli Art Gallery, although fairly new, gains from the experience of its owner, Italian-born art dealer and curator, Sabiana Paoli. With an aim to cater to art collectors of different tastes, the gallery showcases varied art, holds art workshops and talks, to encourage emerging talent. Since November last year, the gallery has been showcasing paintings by Polish artist Robert Latos. Titled “Perceptions,” the portraits and still life in the exhibition are characterised by the bold play of colour and contrasts that Latos is known for. Especially of females, the portraits are enveloped by bright hues of colour that they seem to draw from the surroundings whilst holding their own in relation to the other aspects in the canvas. “Perceptions” will run through 16 January 2014. Sabiana Paoli Art Gallery is at 01-25/26 Tanglin Shopping Centre, 19 Tanglin Road. For more information, visit www.sabianapaoliartgallery.com/
“IF THE WORLD CHANGED”
AT SINGAPORE BIENNALE 2013
Singapore’s biggest art event Biennale returns for its fourth edition this year. Every year the Biennale works around a central theme and this year the theme is “If the World Changed.” With a theme that needs no explanation, Biennale 2013, which started in end October, showcases about 80 artistic talents from all over Southeast Asia. This year, the artefacts show re-creations and reinventions of things we see around us. Spread around the nation’s art belt, this year’s edition brings together 27 international curators and offers an unusual harmony in all its diversity. It promises to be feast for the senses. “If the World Changed” runs through 16 February 2014. Singapore Biennale is at Bras Basah. Bugis Precinct and Our Museum @ Taman Jurong. “JEREMY RAMSEY RETROSPECTIVE”
AT ODE TO ART GALLERY
UK-born Jeremy Ramsey made Singapore his home in the year 1956 after graduating from the Hammersmith School of Arts & Crafts in 1952 and is known for his very contemporary and easy style. Twice elected as the Honorary President of the Modern Art Society of Singapore, the full-time artist exhibits his works worldwide and in his own gallery, Jeremy Ramsey Fine Art. The two-storey haven of art, houses a studio and a gallery with its premises. “Jeremy Ramsey Retrospective,” which is currently on display at Ode to Art Gallery with a preview along the lobby of the Swissotel The Stamford, gives us insight into the abstract world of his art. Drawing mostly from life and adopting a figurative style of painting, Ramsey’s abstracts are rampant with vibrant colours and strong lines. “Jeremy Ramsey Retrospective” will run through June 2014 at Ode To Art Gallery, #01-36E/F Raffles City Shopping Centre. Jeremy Ramsey Fine Art is at 16 Bukit Pasoh Rd. For more information, visit www.artjeremyramsey.com
“THE ART OF COLLECTING” BY SINGAPORE PINACOTHÈQUE DE PARIS
There’s good reason to rejoice for art aficionados in Singapore. Pinacothèque de Paris, the largest private art museum in Paris, has chosen Singapore for its first location outside of Europe. Evoking the aura of its French counterpart—and set in beautiful Fort Canning Park, the Singapore edition will evoke the best of both worlds and continue the gallery’s dialogue between the various mediums of art. The gallery has been running a pop-up exhibition, so Singaporeans can have an idea of what’s to come before its official opening in late 2014. Aptly named “The Art of Collecting,” the exhibition spans no less than 500 years, showcasing art from 20 greats including Botticelli, Rembrandt and Picasso. “The Art of Collecting” will run through December 31 2013 at Fort Canning Centre.
