Hermès celebrates its sporting heritage with its Nombre d’Or collection

Artistic Director of Hermès Bijouterie Pierre Hardy, has helped celebrate the Parisian saddler’s history with Nombre d’Or, a collection of jewellery that brings together iconic emblems of the house, many of the pieces made of rose gold reminding us of the colour of the saddle. “Pierre Hardy has been inspired by the equestrian roots of Hermès since the launch of the first haute bijouterie collection,” says Laurence Reulet, Hermès’ Director of Jewellery. Aside from using icons of the house in the jewellery creations, Hardy makes sure that the pieces don’t rely on gemstones to help them stand out—he plays with the texture and shape of the precious metal. “The haute bijouterie of Hermès works on the whole concept of the design. Hermès is not a couture house or a jeweller, and that’s why the jewellery is made in a very specific way with the focus on the design, the shape, the form and the jewels instead of the precious stones,” shares Reulet. From the studded Collier de Chien to the flowing Licol necklace that swooshes like a sleek horse’s tail, the collection highlights the craftsmanship of the brand.

Cuffs and bracelets form the largest part of the Nombre d’Or— from the Collier de Chien cuff, to the Kelly bracelets, with the famous handbag clasp, and the Chaine d’Ancre Enchainée that depicts a yacht’s chain and anchor. And then there’s the Alchemie, which solves Hermès lovers dilemma of which bracelet to pick—it combines all of our favourite pieces (the Kelly, the Collier de Chien and the Chaine d’Ancre) in one cuff.

But the pièce de résistance has to be the Licol necklace and ring. These shimmering gold pieces seem to combine the riding crop with the horse’s tail. They embody everything that the collection wants to project—heritage,
