THE JA NUA RY OF FA SHION

- KENNETH GOH Editor-in-Chief

This issue marks my first as BAZAAR’s new Editor-in-Chief. It also marks the first rites

of spring—a season most anticipated by us living in the tropics. Add Chinese New Year round the corner and with the odd party and soirée still happening,

it’s a full month for many still in the happy stupor of year-end revelry. So how do you recharge, renew and refresh with so much happening (plus get the kids ready for the new school term)? Simple. You plan judiciously and wipe the slate clean.

Sartorially, there has been no better time to go Zen, so to speak. Party dressing has toned down somewhat over the past few years—

with shimmer and sparkles looking a tad old-hat next to the spare, clean lines of today’s fashion modernists. The glamour is still there—panelled leather skirts at

Louis Vuitton; jewelled pastel dresses at Miu Miu. You still have the magpie factor, but it’s in a less “ta-dah!” way and more a “oh-you-noticed?” For spring/summer 2015, I welcome the softer, cleaner lines and architectural offerings from houses as diverse as Céline to Stella McCartney.

Their scarce simple signatures are no longer so rigid as fashion fatigue has set in for the oft-seen (and copied) boxy, mannish silhouettes.

Everyone has simply softened up and relaxed. Perhaps the most exciting designer of the season, Jonathan Anderson shows a renewed spirit at Loewe, taking his British wit to Spanish peasantry

to produce a stellar collection for this storied house. I spoke to him in Paris right after the shows. See my exclusive interview on page 90. Expectations are always high at the start of the year, so my debut as the editor brings much anticipation from everyone. I hope to bring a fresh energy to BAZAAR,

to excite and tantalise each month and most importantly, to have your fashion, your beauty and your life choices reflected in our glossy pages, our tablet edition as well as social media for many, many issues to come.

Welcome to my first issue and enjoy the fast, fabulous and fashionable journey of a lifetime.
