A WORLD OF TALENT

- Risis’ charity pendant

Dynamism a nd or iginality is highly prized in the world of art… and there is no one who embodies this more than the contemporary art duo Gilbert & George. They have been shocking and entertaining the world in equal measure since 1967 and they continue to be one of the most talked-about duos in the world of art. And now, they are about to provoke the people of Singapore with their new exhibition “Utopia,” which they will be bringing to Art Stage 2015. Quite frankly, we can’t wait, which is why we asked if they would share some of their images exclusively with us before they were seen by the public at the fair. They not only kindly shared these exclusive pieces with us, but they also took time out of preparing for the exhibition to tell us more about their work and what inspires them.

Gilbert & George’s arrival in Singapore is just one of the events set to whet the appetite of art lovers in Singapore. Art Stage, Art Week and the Affordable Art Fair in April, are set to intrigue, excite and entertain those of us who need an art fix. But until you can rush across the thresholds of these fairs and breathe in this creative air, turn to our exclusive interviews with French artist Fabienne Verdier who has taken Chinese calligraphy to the max, Malaysia’s foremost painter Latiff Mohidin (who rarely gives an interview), and Singapore-based Spanish artist Jordi Fornies who travelled to Shanghai to live and work as an artist in residence at one of the most glamorous art spaces around—the Swatch Art Peace Hotel. And then we catch up with Singapore’s best export, photographer John Clang, who reveals how it’s more than just the fishball soup that keeps bringing him home.

And if that’s not enough, we’re all excitedly anticipating the launch of the Pinacothèque de Paris opening in Singapore. Taking the cabinet of curiosities as its inspiration, the museum will be bringing its prized collection of art and antiquities to the Lion City.We speak to Marc Restillini about the launch and his plans for 2015. But there was one more collection that caught our eye recently and that was “Pradasphere” in Hong Kong. writer Debby Kwong was there to help celebrate the heritage of this brand in one of the most dynamic cities on earth. Fashion meets art—yes, nothing could make us happier…
