The concert scene, from boys to men
STRFKR 8 October at Aliwal Arts Centre
Pronounced exactly as it is spelled, STRFKR is an American indie rock-synth pop band that, like its name, blends two contrasting worlds—happy, high-energy melodies and beats with dark, heavy and sometimes morbid lyrics. They are known for putting on quite the show, so be prepared for audio trips that take you on a journey to find one’s place in the universe, complete with astronauts and intoxicating rhythms that will
leave you in a trance.
BACKSTREET BOYS 21 October at the Singapore National Stadium
Can you believe it has been over two decades since Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean and Howie Dorough first stole our hearts? It is time to sing your lungs out like it’s 1997 again because the Backstreet Boys will be in town—in conjunction with the 2017 WTA Finals—for one epic night of good ol’ pop music by the bestselling boy band in history. Backstreet’s back, alright.
NIDAROSDOMENS GUTTEKOR 20-21 October at Esplanade Concert Hall
One of Europe’s most successful choirs, with a history that dates back to the 11th century, the Nidarosdomens Cathedral Men and Boys Choir is putting on a show of traditional and classical works with Singapore’s first professional chamber orchestra, re:SOUND. One such composition is Giacomo Puccini’s hauntingly beautiful “Messa di Gloria”, while organ accompaniment courtesy of the acclaimed Magne Draagen promises to enchant as it buoys some of the strongest voices in the world.
