I’ve been obsessed with the ’70s disco era ever since I first laid eyes on Guy Bourdin’s provocative works years ago. It was a remarkable time—one filled with excess and glamour that saw the birth of David Bowie’s gender-blurring costumes along with Diane von Furstenberg’s fabulous pioneering wrap dress. On the makeup front, draping—a blush application technique pioneered by Way Bandy, favoured by Grace Jones and often seen in the works of Guy Bourdin—was de r riguer. ig This season, the statement beauty look resurfaced via makeup maestro Pat McGrath’s magical touch at Valentino (14), layer ing ir idescent pigments on the lids for an ethereal effect. Draping also gained street cred when paired with the edgy streetwear on display at the Fenty x Puma show. Take your cues from the runways and complete the look with Saint Laurent’s dramatic flounces (7), which would have looked just as perfect on Grace Jones as it did on Rihanna. If you prefer something more low-key, pick Roland Mouret’s strapless jumpsuit (4) and Dior’s high jewellery cocktail ring (6) for a glamorous night out. Or channel Jerry Hall frolicking in an Eres swimsuit (12) on the French Riviera with oversized sunglasses (11) that serve double duty for sun protection as well as hiding from the ever-present paparazzi. ■
