If th there’s a designer who appreciates a good mash-up, one with the perfectly imperfect balance of contrasting elements, it’s Nicolas Ghesquière. For Louis Vuitton’s fall/winter 2018 collection, he presented a sleek vision of athle-chic doused in plenty of eccentricity. Start by layering alice + olivia’s printed top (5), with its graphic interplay, under Alexander McQueen’s hybrid jacket-on-jacket (7), where edgy is paired with classy. Chanel’s fingerless gloves (1) resemble the armband worn by a pitcher on the baseball field, though wearing one glove alone would better suit the season’s mismatched trend—do the same with the crystal earrings from Atelier Swarovski by Tabitha Simmons (6). Top it all off with a medallion necklace (3) to add instant street cred and further highlight the offness of the ensemble, then cinch the outfit with a playful and elegant waist pouch (8). A sensible pair of booties from Bottega Veneta (10) seals the deal after all those unusual add-ons. So there you have it, the new day dressing. It’s strangely cool, no? ■
