All you need to know about the cruise shows, from where they were held to what went down the runways

Before his untimely death in 1994, Franco Moschino was a fashion radical whose satirical view and pointed commentary of the industry earned him notoriety and fame. In 2013, Jeremy Scott assumed Moschino’s mantle and it was a match destined for success. Scott immediately went to work and revived the brand by mixing all things high-brow and low with an irreverent erent hand. Underneath the over-the-top veneer is thought-provoking ought-provoking fashion packaged to be democratic c and uplifting— qualities that H&M hopes to spread read through its upcoming collaboration, Moschino hino [tv] H&M, which hits stores this month.

“Fashion right now is all about bout being bold, being fearless and having fun,” observed bserved Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s Creative Advisor dvisor and one of the major forces driving these designer er collaborations. “When we collaborated with Erdem last year, we felt like we needed a collection that was very romantic and beautiful. Now, we feel the mood has changed. And we needed something very loud and optimistic. Moschino became the perfect brand for us to work with.”

“When I was designing Moschino oschino [tv] H&M, I was thinking street, street, street. I wanted an urban attitude... I wanted it to be 100 percent me, e, 100 percent Moschino,” Scott explained. He lived up to expectations and delivered a collection filled with gloss and d witty punches. There are faux fur coats, mini dresses in denim nim or leather, and heavyduty logo belts and necklaces bursting sting with an ’80s attitude. Elsewhere, Mickey Mouse and his Disney crew make appearances on sweaters and baseball seball jersey shirts.

How did you decide what Moschino signatures to be included together with your own hits?

For Moschino [tv] H&M, I wanted anted to give the fans the realest Moschino collection ction they could get, with all of the Moschino elements ments that they love and need. There’s a touch of vintage Moschino given a new twist. And then there’s the energy of the street, the Italian glamour, a sense of humour, and some pure pop culture references, too. There are definitely some Franco Moschino throw throwbacks in the collection, especially the CD print that’s such a fan favourite. favourit One of the things I’ll do often is take a piece from Franco’s archives, and expand on it to show how it’s part of the vocabulary for the n now. There’re also a few of my designs from past seasons I wanted to [give] their moment in the sun.

You’ve never shied away from making important statements on the Moschino runways. Is there a message we should take note of with this H&M collaboration?

I believe fashion should be accessible to the people. I’m thrilled to do this collab collaboration because I want people to have it. I’ve seen the effect when you make fashion not just accessible but also affordable. It makes me so happy when I see my designs being worn by people on the street, and I c cannot wait for this collection to reach fans all around the world.

Why did you choose to have Mickey Mouse in this collection?

Mickey Mouse is ever everything to me. Everything. What I love about fashion is how it communicates beyond language. In my work, work I can use logos or icons of pop culture and people immediately im know what I mean. I can speak to people peop in Taiwan or Timbuktu at the same time.

Who’s your favourite Disney princess?

Cinderella, beca because her story really links with fashion: The w whole shoe ordeal, the scrappy look that tra transforms into a ball gown... It really is up my alley. ■
