Editor’s Letter

- KENNETH GOH Editor-in-Chief KENNIEBOY

It’s not every month you get transported to so many amazing destinations in one issue. Our Associate Creative Director, Windy Aulia, zipped to all corners of the world to shoot the most incredible fashion in outstanding spaces: From the banks of the river Seine in Paris to the crumbling churches of Arles; from the wondrous waterways of Venice to an urban car lot in L.A.; then across the Atlantic to the cool streets of London. The results? Stunning images that evoke a sense of wonder to transport you away from everyday life. For me, whether it is blue skies, sparkling turquoise waters or acres of rolling fields, seeing evocative pictures of the great outdoors always brings back happy memories in far-flung lands. In this issue, we also shine the spotlight on locales as far afield as the Dominican Republic, where Mikhail Baryshnikov and Lisa Rinehart take us through their amazing home on page 174.There’s a special tribute to Ralph Lauren and his 50 years in the fashion business on page 168.The feature, with pictures taken at iconic spots in the Big Apple; charts how he took on—and conquered—New York and the rest of the world with his unique brand of Americana. Over on the West Coast, we lined up an exclusive cover shoot with the new darling of Hollywood, Hailee Steinfeld. She’s the star of the upcoming Transformers movie, Bumblebee, and has also been winning fans worldwide with catchy pop tunes that extol female empowerment. That’s not all: If you need more travel advice on where to plan your next holiday, turn to Associate Editor, Annabelle Fernandez’s line-up of fashion destinations that evoke the spirit and joie de vivre of the current cruise collections on page 182. It’s a season that has been particularly spectacular—from a gigantic liner inside the Grand Palais in Paris to high on the hills of Saint-Paul de Vence in France, Associate Fashion News Editor, Gerald Tan tracks all the wondrous locations and, of course, fashion that the major houses have presented on page 54.Having returned recently from the spring/summer 2019 shows in Paris,

I can gladly say that this globally inspired wardrobe will be your starting block for 2019. Practically every designer had some sort of fashion nomad on their runway, so looking like you are about to embark on a safari during cocktails or going to Coachella from the boardroom will look completely on point. If anyone has the audacity to raise an eyebrow, just flip to any of the pages mentioned above—you have my stamp of approval on your global fashion passport.

And always remember: Have caftan, will travel.
