All the Buzz in Fashion
Miuccia Prada typically includes her women’s cruise looks in her men’s shows. Last year, however, she broke tradition by debuting a dedicated show on the upper floors of Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. For the 2019 cruise season, the Italian designer crossed over to New York for a sophomore staging within the company’s Herzog & de Meuron-designed American headquarters. On a barren floor where views of the city greet the eyes through tinted windows, Prada revisited the ’90s and kept the silhouettes lean. Ribbed polo shirts were worn with pants that sat low on the waist, while brocades were contrasted with geometric patterns for a full-on “ugly chic” effect. Elsewhere, padded trapper hats gave the collection its athletic thrust. In recent years, the hype surrounding the cruise show circuit has been privy only to a select group; here, Prada’s presentation was broadcasted live on screens plastered across Times Square for passers-by below to enjoy.
