Make like a calligrapher and paint those lids with eyeliner—just don’t forget a base product such as Zoeva’s Pearl Eyeshadow Fix. Some of the most noted makeup artists use liners to cheat a smoky eye, but in this case, precise coloured-in lids, using Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Waterproof Crème Color in Jet from the lash lines to below the brows, create unparalleled impact in a single step. Juxtapose with eyeshadow in a reverse sunset gradation using M.A.C’s Art Library: Flame-Boyant eyeshadow palette to soften and add warmth to an otherwise severe disposition. Pearly eyeshadow-eyeliner combos aren’t novel, but a centimetre difference is all it takes to push the drama to a whole other level. Take an easy-to-use glide-on liner such as Pat McGrath Labs’ Perma Precision Liquid Eyeliner, and instead of applying to the cut crease, take your pen further up, to below the brows, so that you line the entire lid. Then, fill in with a soft bright hue from Sephora Collection’s Mystic Aura Eyeshadow Palette and finish with coats of Dior’s Diorshow Pump ‘N’ Volume HD for a sweet, shocking take on the iconic Twiggy look. Dark blue is the coolest colour for an understated, ultra-updated take on the traditional smoky eye. For sultry, eye-opening definition, sweep on NARS’ Single Eyeshadow in China Blue, blending out into the temples with elegant ombre flicks (with the simple hack of a cue tip and a fluffy brush). Keep the brows, lips and skin soft so the lids can take centre stage. Coat, Alexander McQueen. Earring, Acne Studios

When it comes to neon, it’s go big or go home. Heavy-handed users should reach for blendable cream-to-powder pigments such as 3CE’s Take a Layer Multi Pot for Lips, Cheeks & Eyes, while those who prefer a dusting of vibrant colour can go with Kat Von D Beauty’s Vegan Love Eyeshadow Palette. Jet-black brows in Charlotte Tilbury’s Brow Lift in Naomi make for a stark contrast, instantly injecting an editorial edge to any beauty look. Jacket, Chanel. Earrings, Emporio Armani
