Blaze a trail in these sizzling hot trends

SNAKES AND LADDERS

Mary Katrantzou has put her spin on Bvlgari’s iconic Serpenti range with scarves, bags and snakehead minaudières. With the last doubling as jewellery with a simple switch of chains, we expect them to go around your neck and wrists as much as slung across the body.

GET CHEEKY

The exposed G-string trend of the Noughts is back—but this time with less raunch and more posh. Givenchy’s backless dress scooped down to right above the derrière to showcase a red “T” detail, while Versace took a more subtle route with a side cutout. The question here is, how low do you want to go?

HOTSHOT

Hot pink is enjoying a resurgence and we couldn’t be happier. Rock a frock with leather boots, make a statement of strength in a suit, or try colour blocking by teaming the punchy hue with neutrals. This happy shade is instant joy any day of the week.

SKIN TO SKIN

If you’ve got it, flaunt it. Double down on skintight tops that show off your curves with an arty touch. Tie-dyed at Sportmax, highly textured at Miu Miu and logo-emblazoned at Marine Serre, they make a difference to the most basic of ensembles. From left: Marine Serre spring/ summer 2021. TUNNEL VISION

Say hello to the eyewear shape of the moment: The rectangle. Kept classic or with a tinge of futuristic (think The Matrix), this versatile silhouette is perfect for those with rounder features. The modest, understated shape allows you to go bold with colours, so have fun.

GLOVED TREATMENT

Royal and regal or lavish and frivolous, gloves are emerging as the season’s new must-haves. These unconventional accessories give modern street-chic ensembles a certain edge while amping up the femininity of lady-like ones. Channel chic like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s or go prim like Daphne in Bridgerton.

SWAY THIS WAY

Want an effortless shortcut to drama? Fringe it. Tasselled accessories are a great way to ease into the trend; or go down a “the more, the merrier” route by teaming them with a fringed skirt for added impact. Another easy piece that lets you pull off the look with savvy is a full-length, fringe-hemmed coat for an unexpected take. Adding playful movement, a feminine twist and a peekaboo show of skin, this look defo has fringe benefits.

SEXY BACK

It’s business in front and party at the back as the season offers a whole slew of alluring backless numbers. Keep it simple and to the point like at Hermès, or jazz it up with jewels at the edges like at Givenchy. How refreshing to throw the spotlight on your back for the hot months ahead.

FANCY THIS

#BeachLife was evidently on designers’ minds this season. While Versace dedicated a whole collection to the theme with its mermaid-like visions, Prada and Saint Laurent opted for a more subtle take with trinkets of shells and beads that—when worn on their own or layered with other everyday jewellery— add an instant carefree vibe to any look. Mojito, anyone?
