TALKING POINTS
From the worlds of Art, Culture, Travel and Design
KID’S PLAY
Six months after unveiling its interactive microsite, the Gallery Children’s Biennale is finally launching in the real world at National Gallery Singapore—and right in time for the school holidays too. Introducing nine on-site installations themed to “Why Art Matters”, the artworks explore themes of Home, Diversity, Environment and Time while highlighting the importance of art in a manner that’s easy for kids to understand. Better still: Little ones are encouraged to touch, move and interact with the artworks for a learn-through-play experience that fosters critical thinking and piques curiosity. Visit childrensbiennale.com for more information.
WARM FURRY FEELING
Who better to spoil this Christmas than your bundle of unconditional love? From sleek leashes and chic t-shirts to keep your four-legged companion looking snazzy on your walks about town, to plush beds and posh food bowls that double as furnishings that dress up the home, these designs are just what you need to show your furball just how much you love it.
VIDEO STAR
Having travelled to London’s Tate Modern, San Francisco’s Museum of Modern Art and Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum, “Nam June Paik: The Future is Now” has finally arrived at National Gallery Singapore for its last stop—the only Asian one on its tour. The first major Southeast Asian retrospective on the late avant-gardist who is still regarded as the father of video art, it surveys over five decades of his video-centric work and promises to assault the senses with his pioneering legacy. Expect over 180 installations, video sculptures and other inventive contraptions that give insight into his creative genius.
