PURFECT ACCENTS
You could do head-to-toe tiger stripes to usher in CNY. Or for a subtler take, you could reach for Pandora’s Chinese New Year collection instead. Featuring mythical creatures and motifs from traditional Chinese folklore such as the Pixiu, phoenix and, of course, tiger, the collection (available in a variety of sparkling crystals and gold-plated and silver finishes) lets you create your own lucky talisman to see you through the year ahead with health, wealth and good fortune.
FAIRY TALE COME TRUE
There are watches that tell time and then there are watches that speak of the poetry of time. Van Cleef & Arpels’s timepieces have always found themselves firmly rooted in the latter category. Magical fairies wave their elegant wands as the day progresses. Ballerinas pirouette across the stage to classical music at the push of a button. A planetarium with precious spheres that orbit in real time on the wrist...
It’s a world of dreams and desires made real. And this month sees
Van Cleef & Arpels inviting the public to experience this fantastical universe with its timepiece exhibition at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre’s Hall B. From 12 to 20 February, “A Journey Through the Poetry of Time” will present the Maison’s patrimonial and contemporary creations grouped to four themes:
Love Stories, Ballerinas and Fairies, Poetic Astronomy and Enchanting Nature. Set against an immersive environment that recreates the charm of Paris, this exhibition is not to be missed.
WHERE WILD FLOWERS GROW
GRAFF’s newest floral collection, Wild Flower, features an encompassing range of designs made to be layered. From between-the-finger rings and dainty cuffs to ear studs and dangling earrings, and sautoirs and necklaces of varying lengths, the white gold and diamond pavé creations let you decide just how sparkling a look you want, with style versatility that covers everyday glitter to red-carpet glamour in a heartbeat.
TIME TO ROAR
Every Lunar New Year sees its share of special-edition watches being released for the occasion and this year is no different, with wrist takers to suit every style temperament and budget. Chopard’s L.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Tiger features the revered art of urushi maki-e by Japanese master lacquer artist Minori Koizumi. For Piaget’s Altiplano Year of the Tiger, it’s famed enamel artist Anita Porchet’s cloisonné grand feu enamelling that does the trick. Vacheron Constantin’s Métiers d’Art Year of the Tiger, on the other hand, boasts a hand-engraved tiger in a Chinese Jianzhi paper-cutting style on a grand feu enamel dial. Or for a more graphic approach, TAG Heuer’s Carrera Year of the Tiger features a textured striped dial accompanied by a blue tiger on its sapphire crystal caseback, while Swatch’s Tiger Power 2022 makes its statement with an origami-like tiger’s head as well as red and black accents.
A PIECE OF PARADISE
In 2020, Bvlgari announced the launch of the Jannah high jewellery collection created in collaboration with United Arab Emirates’s HRH Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan. For the collection’s second chapter, Bvlgari has released a range of fine jewellery creations with rose gold, mother-of-pearl and diamonds continuing the five-petalled floral motif that lies at the heart of the collection. Inspired by the mosaics of Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the range balances geometric boldness and feminine elegance with finesse.
NOT HORSING AROUND
What a year 2021 has been for world number one dressage athlete and Richard Mille ambassador Jessica von Bredow-Werndl. Soon after winning two gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics last July, the equestrian took home another three at the 2021 European Dressage Championships in Hagen, Germany, before ending the year on a high when she was crowned the Saab Top 10 Dressage champion in Stockholm after winning the CDI5* Grand Prix Freestyle. To celebrate, Richard Mille commissioned French photographer Mathieu Cesar for a set of photos that capture Von Bredow-Werndl’s deeply intuitive relationship with her mare TSF Dalera BB.
