BLAZE A TRAIL IN VIRGIL ABLOH’S PUMPED-UP KICKS FOR LOUIS VUITTON

Virgil Abloh’s final runway collection for Louis Vuitton was also his most accomplished and assured yet. The late designer’s starting point was the art of sampling—a common practice in the music industry through which new beats and hooks are evolved from existing ones. That translated into a spring/summer 2022 collection in which archetypes and established codes are turned on their heads—suits and tracksuits alike are twisted, transformed and imbued with new meaning. On the models’ feet were new iterations of Abloh’s bestselling LV Trainer sneakers, a mainstay of his collections since he introduced them for his debut spring/summer 2019 collection. Nostalgic with a tinge of the 1980s, the shoes are an homage to the skate and hip-hop influences beloved by the designer. This time around, he rendered them in a psychedelic gradient palette of acid greens and neon pinks—time to put your boldest foot forward.
