SALVATORE FERRAGAMO

-

Guillaume Meilland previously worked on menswear for the House while Paul Andrew designed the women’s. After Andrew’s departure last year, Meilland expanded his responsibilities and is now overseeing both. His spring/summer 2022 collection is a lesson in summer dressing the Italian way—soft, sensuous, tactile. It is a very subtle but nonetheless perceptible departure from Andrew’s aesthetic. Where the latter’s last show had a cold Space Age feel to the proceedings, Meilland’s had a warmth and looseness that seem fitting for the Florentine brand. The models wore scarves tied around their heads and dresses in easy toga, sarong, apron and caftan silhouettes, as well as net tops, knit bras and cotton bandeaux wrapped around the body. Trailing ribbons and swishing fringe added a crafty, tactile quality to the whole affair, while sky blues and soft pinks broke up the warm chocolate and terracotta palette.
