BODY OF WORK
Glenn Martens is steadily shaping up to be one of the most prolific people in fashion. During the recent Fashion Week circuit, the designer delivered a triple whammy of a knockout. As the guest designer for Jean Paul Gaultier’s spring/summer 2022 haute couture collection, he proved that his twisted ways with construction can translate into visions of pure beauty and elegance. A week before that, he put on a menswear show for Y/Project in which he incorporated a souvenir from the Gaultier archives—a series of looks featuring trompe l’oeil body prints that re-energised the Gaultier signature for a new generation. Then he topped it all off with his first runway show for Diesel—a blockbuster that proved democratic fashion can be directional, and that Martens handles mass appeal with as much aplomb as he does the most rarefied of fashion.
