FAMILY AFFAIR

-

Wife of a legendary shoemaker, mother of six and astute businesswoman, the late Wanda Miletti Ferragamo led the Ferragamo business for 58 years after the death of her husband in 1960. She was a central figure to the family empire and to commemorate what would have been her centennial birthday last year (she died in 2018 at age 96), Salvatore Ferragamo has organised a year-long exhibition, “Women in Balance”, at Museo Salvatore Ferragamo, Florence, to throw the spotlight on her life. Yet, the showcase does more than just offer a better understanding of the remarkable woman. What it does is celebrate women who, much like Ferragamo herself, blazed a trail for themselves in a post-World War II Italy and consequently played a hand in shaping the nation’s cultural and social landscape. As she once wrote to her grandchildren: “We women do everything, it doesn’t matter what or where our office is.” This exhibition presents a snapshot of that sentiment. Visit ferragamo.com/museo for more details.
