Styled to look like they cost $40 million dollars, the wedding scenes of Rachel Chu and Nick Young in CrazyRichAsians were big, bold and borderline OTT!
And, although there were some elements that bothered me – White lanterns??? Barefoot down an aisle with ankle-deep water?! – there’s no denying the visual impact of the day and night sequences that screamed obscene wealth.
Movies convey larger-than-life imagery, and in this one, almost every scene was loud and brash. However, true luxury does not have to be this way. In fact, some of the grandest weddings I’ve been to were as they should be – with a sense of subtle and tasteful opulence, be it in the hundreds of stalks of rare blooms flown in just for the occasion, the bride’s gowns that appeared simple yet were made of the finest fabrics and had the most exquisite details, or the gifts of jewellery customised by a famous jeweller for every guest.
This issue profiles some of our readers’ most fabulous celebrations that did not cost anywhere near $40 million, but were just as amazing. Also inside, the newest couture gowns from leading international designers, statement jewellery that will help you look like a million-dollar bride, the best Singapore wedding venues for unique celebrations, and the ultimate honeymoon resorts in Asia.
