“I WANT… A NEW LOOK TO GO WITH MY HAIRCUT”
We were inspired by the purple eye makeup on designer Jason Wu’s runway show this season. By PEARLYN THAM
hen she stepped into our office, we couldn’t tell that May Chen is in her forties and that she is a mother of two teenagers. We think that the spunky woman gets her youthful looks and toned figure from her fitness routine. “I love outdoor activities like hiking, and I run twice to thrice a week,” she says.
May Chen admits that she’s no expert when it comes to makeup, and usually sticks to just a little foundation and mascara – on the rare days when she actually wears makeup. On special occasions, she’ll also put on a single shade of eyeshadow and blusher “to brighten up my face”.
So we decided to experiment with more colour on her eyes but steered clear of bright shades like pink or turquoise – she’s a working mother, after all. Inspired by the purple eye makeup that we spotted in designer Jason Wu’s Fall runway show, we opted for a smoky purple eye.
Makeup artist Gigi Sng suggests toning down a brighter purple by blending in some plum and brown eyeshadow – these colours are more flattering on tanned Asian skin tones.
Says a happy May Chen: “I like the ‘wow’ effect! The colour combination is something that I never thought would look great on me but it did.”
