An A for this BB

LIEU WEI NING has been using BB creams for three years now and loves how a new formula gives her an even-toned, rosy complexion.

Ihave a drawer full of favourite BB creams – the result of trying numerous formulas – that I use in rotation, depending on my skin condition. When my skin is dry and flaky, I pick a creamier, more hydrating formula; when I have to spend more time outdoors, I opt for a lightweight one.

I am extremely critical when I try a new BB cream – I pick on its texture, skincare benefits, coverage and sun protection level. And the new Shiseido Perfect Hydrating BB Cream SPF30 ticked all the boxes on my list. The Japanese brand's first BB cream (though its sister brand, Maquillage, has the Perfect Multi Base BB for those with oilier skin), it replaces the brand's The Skincare Essential Tinted Moisturizer SPF15.

The BB cream comes in two Shiseido Perfect Hydrating BB Cream SPF30, $62. shades – light and medium – and spreads smoothly over skin, making me feel like I wasn't wearing any base. Just a thin layer of it instantly evened out my skin tone and gave my complexion a healthy glow – all this with minimal blending. It also toned down the redness on my cheeks and minimised the appearance of pores.

Packed with amino acids and glycerine, the BB cream reportedly keeps normal and dry skin hydrated for up to eight hours. Even after spending a day in a drying air-conditioned room, my skin stayed moisturised and fresh, without any sign of oiliness or flakiness. Bonus: The formula has antioxidants to protect skin from the signs of ageing.
