SWITCH HOMES

Go to www.airbnb.com (a website travellers use to nd places to stay) and rent a cool pad for the night. These apartments – from modern studios to penthouse units – could be better-furnished, bigger and in a more central location than your own. A swanky three-bedroom apartment on Orchard Road, for example, goes for less than $500 a night. But it’s only courteous to get the green light from the owner before you decorate the place – some may have strict rules about how you can do up their space – and denitely clean up after.

BYE-BYE, STREAMERS

Think out of the box when it comes to decorations. A strip of carpet grass or patterned ceramic tiles will make an unexpected table runner. You can even use those tiles as a “guestbook” by getting your friends to leave notes on them with a marker. Frame them up after as a memento of the great party you had.
