EDITOR’S NOTE
Some years ago, one of my friends witnessed a man exposing himself on a crowded MRT train. He was rubbing himself against a young woman standing in front of him, completely unaware of what was going on. My friend called him out and forcibly dragged him to the station control, but unfortunately, the young woman decided not to press charges and the guy got away.
A quick check among my female friends and colleagues reveals that almost all of us have at least one encounter with a pervert on the bus or train – from flashers to those who secretly fi lm their unsuspecting victims. The statistics are disturbing: The number of outrage of modesty cases on public transport jumped from 114 in 2011 to 155 in 2012, not to mention the 76 cases reported in the first half of 2013.
Seriously, enough is enough. It’s time to stop suffering in silence. Read Stand Up to the Public Transport Pervert! (page 266) to find out how some women bravely fought back, and what to do if you witness or fall victim to obscene behaviour.
On a lighter note, be inspired by the women who revamped their partners’ lives in The Big Husband Upgrade (page 239). They’ve shown that all it takes is a little patience and encouragement to help their men improve their health, social lives and, yes, even beauty routines.
If you’re looking to freshen up your look for the new year, turn to our 17-page Hair Special (pages 198 to 224). Get ideas on cool ’dos for your hair type in Short Cuts (page 208). Plus, our big hair makeover ( Have Yourself a Happy New ’Do, page 198) is back – I love how great our six readers look with fresh crops and dye jobs.
Check out the last-all-year investment pieces in Looks on Our (Minima) list (page 82). Plus, we’ve compiled a list of the hottest hues and most stylish pieces for your zodiac sign in Rock Your Lucky Colours (page 100).
Have a happy 2014!
