HER LOOKGOOD SECRETS
Thai model-actress Davika Hoorne (above) may have acted as a ghost in Thai smash hit Pee Mak, but she is fresh-faced and radiant in person. AMANDA LAI nds out why in Shanghai.
Thai actress Davika Hoorne tells us how she stays looking radiant.
Davika Hoorne is one busy 23-year-old. The modelactress, who is of ThaiBelgian descent, walked the runway for Thai brand Marihorn at last year's Tokyo Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2013–2014. She also played the lead role of a ghost wife in Thai horror film Pee
Mak. This year, the Pan-Asian beauty looks set to start her own fashion line.
At the recent launch of Za's newly revamped True White Ex skincare line in Shanghai, the bubbly and chatty Davika tells me that she relies on thrice-weekly yoga sessions to de-stress and improve blood circulation, and has plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables in her diet. She also swears by monthly facial massages (at the Shiseido spa in Bangkok) and a good night's sleep for overall skin health.
To keep her complexion looking radiant, she uses brightening skincare. As she puts it, these – along with sunscreen – are popular in her homeland because Thai women are afraid of getting dark spots.
By a stroke of luck, Davika was chosen to be the face of Za's True White Ex line.
Her favourite product in the line is the three-in-one Essence Lotion. This multitasker has the texture of a thick toner, and the skincare properties of a serum and a light moisturiser.
What's special about the reformulated True White Ex range: The
products now use the same premium ingredients that were previously only found in products of high-end brands belonging to Za's parent company, Shiseido. And here's the best bit: Prices remain affordable, ranging from $12.90 to $25.90.
One such ingredient is 4MSK, a powerful whitening molecule formerly used only in Shiseido's White Lucent range. As both a preventative and a corrective agent, it supposedly suppresses melanin production, makes brown spots less visible and protects skin from harmful UV rays. Besides 4MSK, products in the True White Ex line also use antioxidants vitamins C and E to boost skin's radiance.
Also unique to this seven-product line is the use of ingredients such as natural hot spring water, mushroom- and seaweed-derived trehalose, and a beet sugar extract. These are rich in minerals, and are said to have moisture-retention and skin-softening properties.
So besides brightening your complexion, the products in the range also hydrate skin – a big plus as so many of us now work and sleep in airconditioned rooms.
