MICHELLE WOLF
» NICE LADY (HBO) “I’m just a vulgar mouthy b***h who tells jokes about f’ed-up sh*t.” That’s Wolf’s own assessment, and it should be on her epitaph. As anyone who’s witnessed her gig/performance/rant at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, which she hosted, she takes no prisoners with her barbed bites, and looks like she’s having a ball while dishing it.
On her Nice Lady special she’s a drink in a tall glass, with a confidence that belies her short years on the circuit. She takes on politics, dating, sex and her previous life as a banker. The jokes are silly but not surreal, feminist but not forceful, and they earned her a 10-episode series on Netflix, The Break with Michelle Wolf (below), that to me is the funniest half-hour on TV.
Good one: “You can have it all… women can have it all… Stop saying that. You act like ‘all’ is good, ‘all’ does not mean good. You’ve never left an all-you-can-eat buffet and thought, ‘I feel really good about myself’.”
