THE RETURN OF REAL-LIFE DRESSING
S/S ’19: The less-is-more wardrobe is back.
Maybe #metoo and #timesup made the empowerment of women hard to ignore. Maybe there has been way too much focus on the young and on street-wear culture. Maybe it’s the realisation that providing real-life solutions is as relevant as creating It things for social media. Maybe it’s the Meghan Markle effect – even a duchess doesn’t need a more-is-more wardrobe. Maybe it’s just that Phoebe Philo has left a vacuum. Or maybe it’s all of the above.
What’s definitely not maybe: a sea change for S/S ’19, where fashion goes back to being something that brings us joy and confidence while simplifying our lives (like Co’s belted number here), and not an orchestrated exercise for a photo op or looking cool. Y’know, the simpler things that all women – even influencers – can get behind.
