#HerWorldHerStory – Women in Leadership
March 8 will always be a special day that I hold close to my heart. Not only is it International Women’s Day (IWD), it’s also my work anniversary at Her World. Joining a magazine that champions women, I thought it made perfect sense to pick IWD as my first day of work.
To mark Her World’s 60th anniversary last year, we launched the inaugural #HerWorldHerStory in March, where we featured 60 ordinary women leading extraordinary lives over six months.
This year, we celebrate female leaders who are in the roles they have today because they have broken glass ceilings, while being hungry for change and leading the way (page 114).
I love Grishma Kewada’s progressive upbringing in Zimbabwe, where she was taught by her parents to not consider gender but meritocracy – exactly my sentiments. Why would gender, or ethnicity differences, even be a factor when good work is just good work?
Dione Song was only 25 when she was offered a marketing director position. She didn’t look back, and is now the chief operating officer of Love, Bonito. She believes that one should grab the good opportunities that life offers and “just jump into it and do it”.
Grishma and Dione are just two out of 10 women we’ve featured, but I believe that there are more women out there who can empower us with their own stories of triumph and adversity.
