Chopard celebrates the rebirth of the 1993 icon with a new campaign starring Julia Roberts.
First introduced in 1993 by Caroline Scheufele, co-president and artistic director of Chopard, Happy Sport has since become a mainstay of the Swiss luxury brand. “Happiness expresses itself through movements (and) happy diamonds follow the rhythm of your emotions. The free diamonds twirl as you do – they communicate your joie de vivre, they sparkle and celebrate your happiness, inspiring those around you,” she says. And Caroline believes that Julia Roberts embodies all of that spirit, especially with her famous smile. Julia is the perfect star for the latest Happy Sport campaign, radiating positive energy and fostering hope that everything will be reborn even more beautiful than before.
The Hollywood star showed up barefoot at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes in 2016 wearing an off-shoulder Armani
Prive black dress that highlighted the Chopard Haute Joaillerie emerald and diamond necklace around her neck – a truly memorable red carpet moment. Since then, she has uniquely personified the ultimate free-spirited woman.
“It was her and nobody else! Julia Roberts was the only person whom I felt could convey the spirit that I see in Happy Sport,” says Caroline.
Now, Chopard celebrates the Happy Sport by launching the First: two 1,993and 788-piece limited edition rereleases of
the very first watch that debuted almost two decades ago. Both pay faithful tribute to their iconic predecessor, with its legendary diamonds and “pebble-link” bracelet, while introducing the latest innovations such as a new case in Lucent Steel A223 and the manufactured Chopard 09.01-C movement with automatic winding. For the first time, the Happy Sport watch will be in an optimally comfortable 33mm-diameter case inspired by the “golden ratio” principles of aesthetic harmony.
