FIND YOUR SKIN’S PERSONALISED BLUEPRINT

If you’ve tried almost every solution available but still suffer from skin troubles, DNA-based skincare might help. By Ruth Chew

If you’ve tried almost every solution and still suffer from skin troubles, DNA-based skincare might help.

Think of DNA-based skincare as an intimate deep dive into how your skin will respond to ageing, sun damage, sensitivity and repair. In Singapore, Anake offers an end-to-end process, from DNA testing to skincare recommendations and in-store treatments.

“Because of the inherited differences in specific genes, the nature of the body’s responses to daily life varies from one person to another. DNA-based skincare allows each person to be knowledgeable about their own skin,” says cofounder Anna Melman.

The first step is a DNA test using a cheek swab to reveal your skin profile. You can order it online ($299) and do it at home or at its store at Wisma Atria. The swab is sent to a lab in Australia and results are available in two weeks.

Melman says the key issues that Anake targets with your DNA report are: firmness and elasticity, wrinkling, sun damage and pigmentation, free radical damage, and skin sensitivity.

With the results and a facial analysis, a plan is then created for your skin. This personalised blueprint covers your skincare, ingredients to look out for, in-store treatments, and even at-home devices to use.

My DNA test revealed that my skin is at a low risk of losing firmness and elasticity, but I show signs of slower healing and some sagging. My skin is also sensitive to environmental stressors such as UV exposure, leaving some photodamage and deep furrows.

Anake’s skincare plan for me is focused on combating the highrisk issue of wrinkling and UV damage. For wrinkles, skincare with algae extract, and glycolic, lactic and hyaluronic acids. To combat free radicals, antioxidants like ferulic acid, vitamin C and phloretin. For pigmentation, brightening products with kojic acid, and vitamin B3 niacinamide for skin protection and repair.

As part of my plan, I try two treatments. The first, LED Light ($299), uses a combo customised for my skin: red to help collagen production and strengthen elasticity, blue to control sebum and breakouts, and green to boost healing. The second is a 60-min Coco Age treatment ($660) using 24K gold leaf and a 24K-goldflecked cream. I leave the store with clean, glowing, plump skin.

Luxe treatments aside, the most helpful part of the entire process is the report detailing what works best for your DNA and skin, to allow you to manage current issues and be prepared for future problems.

Prices start from $180 for skincare, from $299 for facial treatments, and from $500 for home skincare devices. Anake is at #01-11 Wisma Atria, www.anake.com.sg.
