EDITOR’S NOTE
It’s strangely uncanny that as I’m writing this editor’s letter for our Sustainability issue, we’ve also just entered Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) here in Singapore.
We celebrate World Environment Day on June 5 – let this serve as a reminder to bring our own containers for food takeaways now that we’re unable to dine in at food and beverage outlets. While it’s a small role we can play during these challenging Covid-19 times, we can continuously make an effort to learn how to lead a more sustainable and environmentally conscious lifestyle.
Beyond consuming vegan or eco brands and reducing packaging, we talk about having a simpler skincare routine with multitasking items, and the importance of switching to waterless and water-saving products (page 64).
My superbly stylish friends Aarika Lee and Jasmine Tuan also share how they can be chic and sustainable at the same time (page 16). They wear preloved clothes, support fashion brands with eco-conscious philosophies, and strive to reduce their carbon footprints.
As our guest writers environmentalists Woo Qiyun and Bertrand Seah note on page 96, living sustainably certainly should not be a practice reserved only for the privileged, but one that should be accessible to every individual.
