AWARDS, ANNIVERSARIES AND AUTOMOBILES

- Zachary Chan EDITOR

It’s been a year since I took over the helm of HWM and what a ride it has been. The team has constantly outdone themselves month in, month out ensuring that HWM remains relevant in this digital age. Regular readers would have (hopefully) noticed our shift in content as we’ve taken on the challenge of reporting on a much wider technological landscape; one that is no longer confined to personal gadgets or well-defined categories.

Indeed, tech has managed to splice itself into all manner of verticals that the scene is once again refreshing and surprising. And let me tell you, after a decade in this field, very little things surprise me anymore.

Take for example our cover feature of the new Audi TT. Why is HWM reviewing a car you may ask. Why not? Today’s automobiles are as much a computer as they are machine. As a geek, you may not be interested in horsepower or torque, but what if we told you that the smarts in your car is actually powered by the same chips that run your PC games or smartphones? What if the driving experience is akin to piloting a vehicle straight from a sci-fi movie, with all-digital interfaces and touch controls? We might not be fully there yet, but I’ve no doubt that I’ll live to see this future come to pass.

This issue, we also celebrate the winners of our sixth annual HWM + HWZ.com Tech Awards and looking at the level of innovation and expanded categories introduced, I’m looking forward to more surprises next year.
