Endgame Gear MPC 890

ENDGAME GEAR MPC890 STEALTH EDITION

- By Hoots the Owl

Cloth pads are a dime a dozen, but there's still plenty of room for a well-designed pad to shine. Different materials and weaves produce vastly different

combinations of speed and control, and it's a fine balance getting it right. The Endgame Gear MPC890 Cordura Gaming Mousepad Stealth Edition features a durable Cordura surface, similar to what you get on the Cooler Master MP510. Both pads have a very similar feel – fast, but with just enough stopping power that your mouse never feels out of control.

Cordura is a very tough and durable fabric, and it's often used for garments and bags that need to be able to withstand some abuse. Now it's on a desk pad, which means that the MPC890 is especially resistant to fraying, dirt and stains, and general abrasion and wear. It also repels water, so the surface doesn't immediately soak up small spills or accidents. Compared to the fabric of the Razer Gigantus V2, the MPC890 doesn't accumulate dirt as easily, and stays looking clean for far longer.

The edges are

stitched as well for added durability, and the MPC890 is very much a pad that should last you a long while. The rubber base anchors it in place securely, and there's no slippage at all. Visually, this is an extremely sleek looking pad, with black-on-black fabric and stitching, and a matching black logo to boot. I find obtrusive logos can really ruin the aesthetic of a desk pad, and I'm glad that's not the case here. That said, another variant is available in dark blue with a yellow logo, if you prefer an extra pop of colour.

There are several different sizes of the MPC series available, including the MPC450, MPC890, and MPC1200. The MPC890 is the middle size, measuring 890mm x 450mm x 3mm. I'd like for it to be a tad bit longer at just over 900mm, but the taller height gives you a lot more room to work with, especially if you're in the habit of resting your arm on the table when gaming.

The Cordura fabric provides a fast

glide that works great for games where smooth, fluid tracking is required, such as Overwatch and Apex Legends. I prefer something with more stopping power for games like Valorant, but the MPC890 provides just enough control for it to still provide a reliable experience. It's closer to the Fnatic Dash in terms of speed, but it should be a lot easier to get used to if you're coming from a slower cloth pad. However, Cordura also has a very distinctive, textured surface that can feel rough under the skin compared to other pads, which may feel uncomfortable under the skin for some folks.

At S$45.90, the Endgame Gear MPC890 is pretty reasonably priced, and its tough construction means it'll last you a long time. EndGame Gear already makes excellent mice with the evolving XM1 series, and its MPC series is a welcome addition to that arsenal. The MPC890 is a solid choice if you're looking for a welldesigned desk pad, and you'll particularly appreciate it if you play a lot of games that rely on tracking.
