IT’S A SURREAL FEELING when the months seem to fly by working from home. Logically, the work is the same, just the location. But in reality, I have realised that going to the office has much more logistics involved, more movement, more variety. You inadvertently need to travel and meet people, there is a sense of change in your surroundings, a general chaos that anchors the passing of time.

Working from home, you’re sitting in the same spot, staring into the same screen. Yes, you may still be meeting your colleagues, clients, partners, etc. But let me ask you this. How is Zoom different from watching a YouTube video or binge watching TV? You are seeing different people, characters, on the same screen. Your immediate environment doesn’t change. There is a stillness, a sort of staleness where the passing of time isn’t felt.

So what am I saying? Get up, go out, look at things other than your devices. Wear a mask and be safe of course, but integrate yourself back into the world physically, even for a short while outside of your home.
