Voice of a student

Julicia Lek, Grade 8

I joined NLCS (Singapore) in

August 2020 as a founding student.

I love the school’s diverse range of opportunities and events that encourage students to discover what they love and create new friendships. We even have the chance to establish new societies or clubs of our own. One highlight of the past half-term has been starting the English Literature Society.

I also absolutely love the House Competitions as they help us create friendships between year groups and are always such friendly and enjoyable events. English lessons also always inspire me to want to learn more and, as we explore different topics, I’m able to discover new passions. I believe these classes equip me with skills that I can use in everyday life. For example, I’m gaining more confidence in public speaking and debating. A highlight of my time at NLCS (Singapore) has been attending Debating Club. I never knew I enjoyed learning about and using the power of rhetoric until attending. It gave me more confidence and enlightened our perspective about the world.

As I look ahead to life and possibilities after graduation, I want to question the world and the ways of thought. I want to pour my wildest whims into a tangible thing and be filled up with theorems of space and science and mathematics! I hope to discover many versions of this world and understand it as best I can, both the physical and theoretical.
