Voice of a student

Rohan Panday, Grade 11, American

I’ve been at the Singapore American School since fourth grade. At our school, everyone is incredibly passionate about what they do. Whether it’s students or teachers – everybody dives into what they love, be it academics, athletics, arts or service, and they give it their best. SAS is also a welcoming and tight-knit community. At school events, the atmosphere is lively and the entire community comes out to support our teams. SAS is a second home for many of us.

If I had to choose my favourite subjects, they would be STEM subjects and music. From a young age, I watched rocket launches on MythBusters and read about planets and distant stars. My love of music and singing stemmed from my early engagement with performing arts which, because of their unbounded nature, are perfect for me. One of my most memorable experiences at SAS was SpaceLab, where I worked with nine other students to design an experiment that went to the International Space Station. Our study observed the effects of microgravity and radiation on human microbiota. It was truly exhilarating to watch the Northrop Grumman rocket holding our experiment blast off at 4am one Sunday morning. Through this experience, I learned about resilience, collaboration and the fruits of hard work.

When I graduate, I plan to study engineering or the sciences. I’m really excited about college, the opportunity to meet new people and to further grow as a person.
