Mosaic Preschool
Phil and Mina, British and Japanese; Monica (4) and Owen (2)
When we first visited Mosaic Preschool, the children quickly developed a sense of belonging and bonded with the teachers. We also learnt that the school would move to a much bigger space at the rooftop of the same building, which would increase exposure to natural light and the opportunity for outdoor play.
Mosaic values play to unlock potential, which also aligned to how we wanted the children to develop through engaging in new experiences. The school offers three languages; besides Mandarin, there’s Japanese, which is quite rare in preschools here. The location of the school and diversity of the children and teaching staff also appealed to us.
Our children have been at Mosaic for more than a year – Monica is in Nursery 2 while Owen is in Nursery 1. They love talking about their friends and the activities they do together. These include cooking, various performances, games and language studies. We appreciate the way each teacher understands our children’s needs to support them in the most effective way to build confidence. This is so important at this age of their development.
A highlight for us was when Monica brought home a variety of Mandarin books with rip-out cards – she taught us Mandarin and how to play the game!

Nikki, British, and Ali, Iranian; Faya (6), Noah (4) and Elias (2)
We moved to Singapore from Hong Kong in 2017. Faya had just turned two years and Noah was a baby.
As a former teacher, I was looking for a few key things in a preschool. I felt that a large campus environment might overwhelm Faya so we wanted a warm, cosy and safe environment. Secondly, and non-negotiable, was a play-led learning environment. My experience is that play-led learning for young children is vital for their early-stage development; they have all their lives for serious learning! Finally, it had to be within walking distance of our home.
Shaws ticked all these boxes and more. The teachers won us over with their warm personalities and they seemed to genuinely care about the children in their care. This definitely proved to be the case.
Faya joined Shaws in 2018, followed by Noah the following year and eventually Elias, the final member of our family, in 2021. Faya recently started primary school, Noah is in N2 and Elias is in pre-nursery. They all love Shaws and have made so many friends from countries far and wide.
My favourite memory is definitely the prepandemic Mother’s Day celebrations that my mother-in-law and I attended. The children sang songs and we had a salsa class together; there was so much fun and laughter.
WHAT FAYA LOVES
“Definitely cookery class!”
