Picking the Perfect Paste

Here are three things to consider when choosing the right toothpaste for your child.

-

1 FLUORIDE LEVELS

Brushing with fluoride toothpaste is one of the most effective ways of preventing tooth decay. However, not all toothpastes offer the same level of protection. So, it’s important to choose a paste that contains just the right amount for your child. Measured in parts per million (ppm), fluoride levels can be found on the side of the toothpaste tube.

Most recent recommendations advise children from two years to brush twice daily with a smear of toothpaste containing at least 1,000ppm, and three-to-six-year-olds do the same, but with a pea-sized amount.

2 EXTRA ENAMEL PROTECTION

Since little teeth have thinner enamel than permanent teeth, it’s essential to choose toothpaste that offers enough protection. While most toothpaste on the market contains mineral fluoride, the Elgydium Kids and Juniors range uses Fluorinol, which is an organic fluoride that enables six times more fluoride fixation to enamel than other kids’ toothpastes.

What’s more, Elgydium’s formula contains Siliglycol, which forms a protective film that encourages the fluoride to bind with the enamel surface of the teeth longer, even after rinsing! Bonus points for this protective layer’s added benefit of fighting off bacteria.

3 FLAVOUR

The taste of the paste can actually make or break a child’s brushing compliance. So, finding a flavour that’s appealing to your little one is key to conquering that twice-daily brush.

Elgydium’s Kids and Juniors range has a variety of tastes to appease everyone in your crew. Seven-to-12-year-olds can choose between Bubblegum and Mild Mint, while there’s Banana for two-to-six-year-olds, and Fresh Strawberry and Red Berries – a fruity fan-favourite – for three-to-six-year-olds.

Elgydium Kids and Juniors Toothpaste is available at Guardian, Watsons, Unity Healthcare, FairPrice Finest, Cold Storage, Kiddy Palace, Metro, Mothercare, OG, NHG and NUHP Polyclinics and Nishino Pharmacy.
