Dover Court International School

-

Emilia, Year 12, Italian

I’ve been at Dover Court for two years and I’m in my first year of the IB Diploma Programme. The school’s warm, kind and outgoing culture has helped me make what already feels like lifelong friendships, which is enabled by the small community. This applies in the small classes, which encourage students to spontaneously debate on the topics we’re studying. This leads to learning content that goes beyond our course and expands our knowledge and perspective.

The topic timeline is also quite flexible, with students involved in deciding when to study which topic. Hence for Physics, which is one of my favourite subjects, I can move from studying laws like those of thermodynamics to exploring the many complexities and inner workings of the universe. Music is my other favourite subject. It allows for immersive self-expression and, through classmates with diverse backgrounds, I get to learn how different cultures impact music and vice versa.

I hope to study mechanical engineering and I’m grateful for the opportunities the school’s career counsellor has created for us to explore different universities.

Dover has given me precious memories including the Amazing Race that our teachers organised to celebrate the end of our IGCSEs. We visited some beautiful locations in Singapore to get to know the local landscape and culture in the company of friends. The activity brought a huge smile to my face; I’m so very thankful for my teachers who organised this!
