GESS – International School

-

Roxanne Yap, Grade 10, Filipino

This is my fourth year at GESS. I like how the school environment is comfortable, safe and welcoming. The school gives students many opportunities outside of the usual academic classes. For instance, they’ve provided a good variety of CCAs over the years, with a number of clubs and committees created by teachers and also those started and run by students. GESS basically encourages students to try new things and does its best to accommodate our personal interests in school.

I absolutely love Drama because I’ve always loved watching movies and plays. I’ve also enjoyed acting, directing, being creative, a bit of physical activity and collaborating with others freely. I always look forward to the day of the week when I have double Drama periods.

If I had to pick one major highlight, it would be working on sustainability-related tasks during the summer of 2020. After undertaking an online course on completing tasks like short essays, research and posters, I surprisingly qualified for a competition that required me to work in a group to create a product that would encourage sustainability. I attended more workshops and video conferences with a counterpart from another school for the competition. Together, we were able to win, which I was not expecting!

I’m not sure what I want to do when I graduate. Right now, I’m drawn to trying out psychology and becoming a guidance counsellor or just a general psychologist.
