Global Indian International School

-

Praneeth Suresh, Grade 11, Indian

I’ve been at GIIS for the last 11 years; I’m currently doing the IB diploma.

All the teachers are extremely supportive when students need help with anything, not just academics. There’s also a mentorship programme for higher secondary grades where an assigned mentor works with us on a regular basis. My mentor in Grade 10 helped me tremendously – on a weekly basis, we discussed strategies for everything from time management to study plans and staying healthy. This helped me with the IGCSE and had a positive impact on my life as a whole.

There is a firm set of values in terms of the culture that the school encourages and this sets clear expectations for students to live up to. This has helped me to develop as an individual and improve my personal traits. I also like the community feeling in the school and I value the positive relationships I share with my peers.

I enjoyed Global Perspectives in the IGCSE, because it was quite unconventional. It helped me refine my thought process when communicating with others and build a case from a specific perspective. It also taught me how to work effectively in a team.

As the Vice President of the Interact club at GIIS, I work to support community service activities, including charity drives and other outreach programmes. I won the GIIS Hackathon 2021 competition, which was a thrilling experience. I also had the opportunity to meet Ms Jane Goodall through a competition conducted by the Jane

Goodall institute in Singapore. This was very memorable for me and I became a member of the Roots and Shoots programme; I’m on its Youth Leaders’ council in Singapore.

I would like to enter the field of computing, most probably computer science. Before going to university though, I’ll be doing National Service as I’m a PR in Singapore.
