Overseas Family School
Naya Verma, Grade 7, Canadian
I’ve attended OFS for 10 years. My friends and my supportive and dedicated teachers truly make me appreciate being in this school.
OFS offers so many opportunities and amenities that other schools don’t have, one of which is an Olympicsized pool with state-of-the-art equipment. I’m part of the OFS Tigers competitive swim team – getting into the pool and training daily keeps my mind fresh and focused.
Our coaches consistently provide us with rigorous training and highly competitive opportunities. In March this year, I qualified to participate in Singapore’s national-level televised swim competition, the Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championships (SNAGs). The training from swimming helps me to build resilience to study as well.
In the classroom, I really enjoy the content that we learn and how it’s personalised to be taught to us. Our teachers care about educating us in ways that we enjoy and understand, yet they challenge us to think critically at the same time.
The sciences are my favourite subjects – the way that humans invent systems to understand our natural world is fascinating to me. Students have opportunities to do experiments consistently, which is my favourite part of the course. I particularly enjoy the dissections we do during our Biology units.
Due to my fascination with the systems of the brain that I learnt about in our science classes, I wish to pursue a career in neurosurgery. I also hope I will be able to keep up my passion for swimming after I graduate.

I’m currently a junior at SAS after having been here for
11 years. Throughout my time growing up in this community, I’ve seen my interests grow with the grand extracurricular scene we have here.
One activity that is well-received by our community is the preparation for the annual drama production, which this year was the musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. In joining this production, I was stepping out of my comfort zone since acting was completely new to me. However, as cast mates became family and with all the support I received from them, I developed a newfound passion for acting. Being a part of this production was definitely one of my major high school highlights as it showed me just how welcoming our community is.
Reflecting on this experience, I realise how grateful I am for the vast number of opportunities I have at this school. No matter what I may find the passion for, SAS always has something to offer.
On top of my exposure to extracurricular activities, the inner communities such as honour societies allow me to delve deeper into subjects of interest. As a result, I found a love for Physics, a subject I hope to pursue after I graduate.
For all these, I appreciate SAS for supporting passion in every direction.
