Stamford American International School

-

Sofia, Grade 12, Spanish

I’ve been at SAIS for three and a half years and I’m currently in my senior year.

I appreciate the international diversity of SAIS that gives us the opportunity to learn from vastly different cultures. There’s incredible support from teachers who get to know students and provide the support they may need. I know various teachers who I can easily talk to or ask for help at any time.

There are endless opportunities offered by the school – you’re sure to find a club, CCA or sport to pursue whatever you’re interested in. In the case that there isn’t an activity for you, you’re given support to start a student-led club. Being able to try many different things has enabled me to discover my interests.

I love Physics as I find it fascinating to learn about how things work. The teachers at SAIS also make me look forward to class as they create an engaging learning environment and are always approachable for any help.

Every year, the overseas trips are an exciting time for all students and the Grade 10 field studies trip to Cambodia was personally the most memorable. It was shocking to learn about its history and talk to people who lived through it. While having lots of fun and bonding with friends, I learned about a different culture and history from mine. After the trip, our Humanities teachers taught us even more about what we had experienced in Cambodia, which gave us an even deeper understanding of the country.

After SAIS, I’ll be studying aerospace engineering in university. I hope to contribute to making commercial space travel sustainable, autonomous and safe. I would also like to get a pilot’s licence!
